How it works

A commission pool sized by aggregate team attainment (e.g., $50K when team hits 100%) is split among team members based on a defined formula - often equal share, hours-on-deal, or a discretionary allocation. Common for SE / pre-sales pods, also used in inside-sales pods.

Formula

Pool = base_pool x team_attainment_multiplier. Per-rep payout = pool x allocation_share.

Worked example

Example. 3-person SE pod. Pool $30K at 100% team attainment, 1.5x at 130%. Team hits 120% → pool $42K. Equal split = $14K each.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Encourages cross-rep collaboration
  • Simpler than individual SE crediting
  • Scales with overall team performance

Cons

  • Free-rider risk if not paired with manager visibility
  • Less direct line-of-sight than individual plans

  • Roles with diffuse contribution
